ENV crews responded to two sewer spills Sunday caused by backup power failure
HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services (ENV) responded to two spills caused by a back-up power failure at the Ala Moana Wastewater Pump Station on Sunday, August 16.
The first location was at the intersection of Ala Moana Boulevard and Atkinson Drive. ENV responded to this spill at 10:15 a.m. The spill ended at 7:50 p.m. Crews are cleaning, disinfecting and deodorizing the site.
The second location was at 415 South Street. ENV responded at 5:45 p.m. The spill ended at 11:15 p.m. Crews are cleaning, disinfecting and deodorizing the site.
The spills were caused by a backup power failure following a power outage in the area. The spill volume at both locations is unknown at this time and is under review.
The State Department of Health has been notified and sampling will be conducted. Signs have been posted in the area.
