Temporary debris site at Central Oʻahu Regional Park cleared; restoration to begin

HONOLULU– The City and County of Honolulu Department of Environmental Services (ENV) announces that all storm debris previously staged at Central Oʻahu Regional Park (CORP) has been fully cleared.

Contractors completed removal of the final loads earlier Thursday, including one load transported to Waimānalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill and three loads of metal materials sent for recycling. 

The CORP site was temporarily activated as part of the City’s Disaster Debris Management and Operation Plan (DDMOP) to expedite storm debris removal and assist those impacted by the Kona low storms that flooded Waialua and Haleʻiwa in March.

Now that debris removal is complete, restoration efforts at the park will begin soon. The process will include post-site testing to ensure safety, removal of any contaminated soil if necessary and restoration of the area with clean soil and new grass. Temporary fencing will remain in place during this time and take several weeks to complete.

ENV remains committed to ensuring the park is returned safely for public use as quickly as possible.
